Everything we do
Six ways we help.
One team around your child.
Most of it happens under one program, called Children and Family Treatment and Support Services (CFTSS). The rest is built around it.
Counseling and mental health support
Mental health support, counseling and skill-building from licensed clinicians and coaches, at home, at school and in the community.
Parent-to-parent support
A credentialed parent advocate who has been where you are, working alongside you.
ABA therapy
Individual, evidence-based strategies that build everyday skills. A separate program from CFTSS.
After-school program
Homework help, skills groups and a place to belong after the school day.
Childcare
Inclusive early-childhood care with developmental support built in.
Early intervention
If your baby seems behind, you don’t have to wait and see. Free for every family.
The program behind most of it
The program behind it,
in plain words.
CFTSS is a set of New York State Medicaid services for children and young adults under 21. The services come to the family, at home and in the community, whenever that is the right setting clinically.
Which services a child gets depends on that child: their needs, their eligibility, a clinical assessment, medical necessity and what is available. Nobody gets a package. Everyone gets a plan.
There are six services under CFTSS. We describe each one in plain language, with the official name beside it, on the counseling and mental health support page.
Parent-to-parent support
You know your child best. We’ll work with that.
Official name: Family Peer Support Services (FPSS), part of CFTSS.
A Family Peer Advocate is a parent who has raised a child with emotional or behavioral needs and has been credentialed by New York State to support other parents. They have navigated the schools, the evaluations and the paperwork themselves.
What it looks like: someone on your side who explains what is happening, helps you speak up for your child, coaches you on routines and behavior at home, and connects you with the right resources. Sessions happen at home or by phone, in your language.
A good fit if
- Mornings, homework or bedtime turn into a fight most days.
- The school keeps calling and you are not sure what to ask for.
- You have been given a diagnosis and no map.
- You are handling this alone and would like someone who gets it.
- Your child is in treatment and you want to know how to help at home.
ABA therapy
Skills that make everyday life easier.
Official name: Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), a separate program from CFTSS.
Individual, evidence-based strategies that build communication, social, learning, behavior, independence and daily-living skills, delivered at home and in the community by a licensed behavior analyst and trained technicians.
Crisis support
When it is happening right now.
Official name: Crisis Intervention, part of CFTSS.
Short-term support when a child or young adult is in an emotional or behavioral crisis. Our team helps calm the situation, deals with what is urgent, and connects the child and family with the right follow-up.
A licensed social worker is on call 24 hours a day. Call the same number, day or night.
If your child is in immediate danger, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. For a mental health crisis, you can also call or text 988 any time.
Not sure which service is right for your child?
You don’t have to figure that out on your own. Tell us what you are seeing. We’ll review it, talk through eligibility and insurance, and work out the next step with you.
No cost to your family with insurance. We accept New York State Medicaid, MVP, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan and most private insurance, and we check your coverage for you. No coverage yet? We’ll help you apply.
