How it works in New York

Five steps, and the first one
is a phone call.

Early intervention is a New York State program run through the county. Rising Child is one of the providers a family can choose. Here is the whole path.

  1. 1

    Anyone can refer

You, your pediatrician, a daycare. All it takes is a parent’s consent. You can call us first and we’ll help you make the call.

  2. 2

    The county takes the referral

Rockland County’s Early Intervention Official assigns a service coordinator to your family. Their number is 845-364-2032.

  3. 3

    An evaluation

A team looks at how your child moves, talks, plays and connects. It is free, and it is not a test your child can fail.

  4. 4

    A plan, written with you

If your child is eligible, the plan (called an IFSP) lists the services, how often, and where. Usually at home.

  5. 5

    Services start

Speech, occupational or physical therapy, or special instruction, at home or at the center. Free to every family, whatever your income or insurance.

What we’ll offer

Therapy in the room next to the classroom.

From July 2027, early intervention services will run out of the new center and in families’ homes: evaluation, speech-language therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy and special instruction. Rising Child will be an approved New York State early intervention provider in its own right.

What makes it different is the collaboration. Special education teachers, speech, occupational and physical therapists, mental health clinicians and ABA staff work as one team around each child, so a family is not coordinating five providers in five places.

What is already true: a child in our childcare who needs therapy will get it in the same building, during the day, without a parent leaving work.

After age three

What happens when early intervention ends.

Early intervention stops at a child’s third birthday. If support is still needed, the child moves to preschool special education, called CPSE, which runs through your school district. Your service coordinator starts that handover months ahead, and we help you through it.
